Dental Exams: What to Expect
Dental exams are an important part of your total health care. With over 60 years of serving the greater Worcester County community, we’ve helped tens of thousands maintain a healthy smile with annual dental exams. It all starts with the dental exam.
When you arrive for your dental exam, you’ll notice our office is designed to feel as comfortable as your own home with our welcoming environment, as well as our friendly and experienced staff. We focus on creating a painless and low-stress environment from our exams and cleanings to cosmetic and surgical procedures. We achieve this by using cutting edge technology and digital dentistry.
For example, we use the latest versions of electric handpieces to allow us to be more precise with less noise and vibration, which benefits our patients. With more comfort and less menacing sound, patients will experience a calmer, more relaxed visit to our office. Plus, less noise protects your hearing too.
Your dental check-up will be performed by one of our accomplished dentists, along with the help of one or more experienced dental assistants and a dental hygienist if teeth cleaning is necessary or required. Here’s a look at steps associated with a routine dental exam.
- Medical History Intake
Generally, a few questions about your oral health history, current habits and current ailments. With this information the dentists at Worcester Quality Dental will be able to assess the first steps and establish a treatment plan based on your specific needs. - Patient Education
We also focus on patient education, we utilize intraoral digitals photographs for EVERY visit which allows the patient to understand the condition and the treatment. Intraoral cameras are essentially tiny digital cameras that enable the dentist to capture images of difficult-to-reach areas in the mouth. They can easily go inside the mouth and capture digital images inside it. - Dental Cleaning
All of our dental cleanings start with the removal of calculus (tartar), and plaque. Calculus is hardened plaque that accumulates on the tooth surface both above and below the gum line. Tartar can only be removed with special dental instruments; and plaque is a sticky, colorless film consisting of living bacteria, food debris and saliva. This process helps remove the bacteria that produces toxins (poisons) that can inflame the gums, leading to periodontal (gum) disease.Once the teeth have been cleaned, they are inspected for damage, oral cancer screenings occur, and finally your teeth get a teeth polishing. Polishing removes stains and traces of plaque that remain on the teeth so you can enjoy that “just left the dentist” clean feeling.
